I did not know this All of the Panzer IVs Syria used had the “long-barrel version” of the Rheinmetall KwK 40 gun which could penetrate a M4 Sherman’s armor at ranges up to 1,000 yards under ideal circumstances. The WWII-era TZF.5f gunsight was retained by the Syrians. A full ammo load was 87 rounds. There were two secondary machine guns, either MG-34s or MG-42s, one coaxial and one in a ball mount in the tank’s nose Panzers in the Golan Heights WW2-era German Panzers last saw combat during the Six Day War in 1967, when Syria used them against Israel on the Golan Heights. Discover how Syria was able to acquire so many WW2 German vehicles and how they fared in combat against IDF Shermans and Centurions.
Hey Clive. Are you sure about the MG-42s? I've only read about MG-34s in Mk IVs during WWII. I think they were used in some of the Jagdpanzers though. Guess I'm nitpicking but hell, it's the pandemic lockdown
