Portrait issues

A quick query to you technical geniuses out there.

For a couple of weeks now I have only been able to look at the home page in landscape mode. When I turn my iPad to portrait, which is the usual way I read the Forum, the left hand side where the various subjects are listed, goes all skew-whiff as per the attached photo.

I can read all the threads themselves and make posts in portrait mode just fine, it’s just the home page that goes wonky like this, which, as you can imagine, makes scrolling down the subject headers in portrait nigh on impossible.

I recently downloaded the iOS 14.1 update onto my iPad, so I’m not sure if this is why it suddenly changed, but I am no expert in how all these things work.

Would you have any ideas? At the end of the day I can just look at the homepage in landscape, of course, so not a crisis per se, but a curiosity to a technical dullard like me nonetheless.

    Well that's, errrm, different.

It obviously shouldn't do that, but it's hard for me to test as I'm an Apple racist & won't have ios in the house.

Any other Apple/Ipad/Iphone users getting the same?
If not, we can at least start to tell if site or settings (Apple settings... shudder.)

One thing always worth trying for display issues is clearing cache & cookies for the site playing silly-buggers.

What does the 'recent posts' button do?
    Same thing?

    Lol.

Thanks for that Adam. Tried the cache and cookies thingy (I even had to search for how to do that, told you I was good at tech stuff) but sadly no joy. Oh well, worth a try and there’s always landscape for that page (weird how it doesn’t do it to the right side of the page).

Let me have a look at recent posts.

“New Posts”, “members online” are both fine when I click on them, the ensuing pages come up ok. That right hand side of the home page looks fine, it’s just that left side you see in the photo, under “Administration”, that goes wonky.

The threads themselves are also all fine to read in portrait. Hey ho, maybe it will correct itself.

I wonder if some formatting character has crept into the Administration header that Safari is being a little 'strict' about. (They can be buggers for HTML interpretation when other browsers shrug & move on)/
    I'll have a look later.

Cheers, but please don’t spend too much of your spare time on it on my account, you’ve probably got enough on your plate. And I can always turn it sideways lol.

Suspect it's more a local Settings issue rather than interface btwn apple products and forum software per se.

Neither my old iPhone nor new iPad have this issue on portrait. (Just updated my iPad to 14.2 in last few minutes to check - no problem on that either.)

However, over the years I've noticed this on the various MacBooks that I've used. Never resolved it: too lazy & it doesn't bother me enough.

Front page is fine expanded (or on full screen setting), but the same 'vertical squish' of sub-forum headers appears on front page only when narrowing the window, which I often do in order to work with 2 open side by side.

Narrow window as much as can go and all is fine again

Recent Posts: no issue. It's been like that since I can remember... No help really but you're not alone!
