    Thats amazing Andrew and thanks so much !

    I just wish I could find the final proof to have his name put on that headstone-I know its him.

    Bit bored this afternoon so this is Andy's junction in 1957, courtesy of IGN:

    The house is not inconsistent with the one in Andrew's photo of a Guy wheeled tank in this thread:

    I note that the file name implies that the photo has been cropped, I wonder if there's a clearer view of the staggered junction in the original?

    Even better, though, the IGN map (pre-roundabout) names the junction:

    Could the name on the house/pub be LE REPOS DES CHASSEURS?

    My eye of faith sees ..REPO..

    :poppy::poppy:

    Here's the original from eBay - not much help I am afraid.

    Thanks Andrew,

    Assuming the marking is a unit-Can anyone ID the marking on the front of the sidecar?

    My opinion on the subject is that these members of No.3 Military and Air Mission (Phantom) were killed by an anti tank weapon. This is well recorded and confirmed by surviving members of the Mission in 1940. 2/Lt Edgcumbe and crew did drive a Guy Armoured Car and drove around the corner. They were hit by the enemy anti-tank gun and the crew were killed in action.

    Quite a sobering thread for me on more than one level.....As a former Royal Lancer (9th/12th) and originally hailing from Wolverhampton, the home of Guy Motors where these armoured cars were built. Such a distant event yet so relevant.

    Sadly after having been informed today by my best mate that someone else is blatantly claiming to have identified who the Unknown Officer is as their own work, when it was my research after reading a random post by Paul aka Reccemitch on here 8 years ago that led me to put two and two together and get four with the help of some other forum members and the National Archives, me and Rich will no longer be posting any updates on here until a report has been compiled and filed to the MOD and CWGC for their perusal to see if they accept who I believe to be buried in the unknown grave.

    If anyone has anything to share with us regarding this post of LCpl Webbers feel free to send us a private message.

    Cheers
    Andy

    That's good news-I believe the headstone will be replaced next year on the date of his death. I'm glad he's finally coming in from the cold. Thanks to everyone who contributed especially Paul (RecceMitch). Without his post making me curious I'd never have found who it was.

    Andy do you know if the general public are likely allowed to be there on the day?
