Thank you Adam for the VJ75 on the forum heading. Royal Family to lead tributes marking VJ Day 75. Lesley
Am I missing something, or is it because I live on the wrong side of the Channel? I still only see the VE-Day heading...
I take the blame for that as I suggested Adam use it in silhouette to denote a Commonwealth soldier fighting the Japanese.
As I did it, I genuinely knew/hoped somebody would quibble at some detail. It's part of why I still quite like this place. Nice one!
Thanks, to whoever did this... From the age of 4 to 7 my father, with his little brother and mother, was in a Japanese camp on Java. They had to bow and praise the emperor. When his mother was punished, he wasn't allowed to interfere. His father, a Dutch POW, in his early 40's, was a laborer on the Burma railroad. He never spoke much about it. I only know he lost a finger and was saved being beaten up because a British officer interfered. I don't know what happened to the officer, but still hope he wasn't punished instead. My immediate family all survived. My grandfather's brother in law, however, got killed in the sinking of the Junya Maru. Pretty sure I wouldn't be here if the war hadn't ended by 15 August 1945.
