49th recce.. remembering late grandad

    I am honoured to have joined this excellent forum... my grandad John Dennis Owen was a trooper in the 49th recce's.. he signed up at age 19...newly married and with a child on the way he went to serve his county...when he returned home his first child was quite a few months old. I have a copy of his 'soldiers will form' that is all, and have just applied for his records from Glasgow. I wondered if my grandad may be listed anywhere in a book/diary/article or there be any pictures and you fantastic people may be able to help.

    Welcome aboard, lots of Recce interest here, you have started on the correct route by sending off for his records, be patient but worth waiting for. There are a few articles on 49 in the Reconnaissance Journals, have you seen them?

    Hi, i have seen a link to the journals but not had chance to read yet, but i definately will. Thank you for the book recommendation i shall defo look out for that..
