Hi Can anyone help identify the name of the rating killed in paragraph c ? Source: Admiralty War Diary for 28/12/44 Thanks in advance. Gus
Gus, I’ve been searching for you, and I can’t find ANY casualties for that day in Greece BUT, I’m still looking I did find this Admiralty War Diary confirm your post above AND, I found this article in an Australian newspaper that indicates two shells were fired, the second landed in the Anglo/Greek Naval HQ’s.......so, it brings up the questions was the a BRITISH casualty or a GREEK casualty???? OR possible another county (Commonwealth) casualty???
Thanks for this Copied all of the Greece stuff from the admiralty war diaries I found on fold3 during their free long weekend Took me two days. Unusual to not find a casualty somewhere. Cwgc, naval history website, FMP, ancestry, etc. Gus
NOTE; I found a bunch of articles that were published the 27th Dec 1944.......so it looks like this shelling happened on the 27th
Hi Thanks for this. The more I read the more I agree that the info might be a day out. Have to tread carefully. Gus
Haven’t been able to find anything else Gus......I do have a subscription to Fold3 if you need me to look for something specific. I have tried to find documentation for a “anglo/Greek naval HQ’s” or search’s with similar wording but haven’t found anything yet. Commonwealth War Graves doesn’t seem to give any clues either for the 27th Dec.
You might be right Gus. I have been checking “what British Warships” we’re their......but if any UK or Commonwealth Naval Rating was killed, they would be in the Commonwealth War Grave Commission records....and I have check the 27th Dec 1944 listing also. Will check a bit more
