Can anyone please help by identifying this medal ribbon. The only clue I have is that the recipient served in the Royal Navy as a regular and that he served in both World Wars

Thank you very much - The Royal Navy is not my speciality so I really appreciate your help. I agree that it does look very much like the Africa Star. It came from a collection of ten medal ribbons roughly sewn onto a piece of cloth and all very dirty/faded. What would be the purpose of the rosette?

    Hi,

The rosette query is fully answered in the Wikipedia link I attached. It’s to show an entitlement to 1942/43 clap - rather than 1st or 8th Army clasps - when not wearing the full size medal.
