Until 5 minutes ago I didn't even know that the Smithsonian Channel UK existed, but I do now. Loads of history programmes and tonight at 2000 they have a new programme called The Lost Ships which is about searching for the WW-1 wrecks of Spee's squadron off the Falklands.

*It says 9pm on the poster below but I have just checked the listings at it is definitely 8pm. Prior to that is Battle of Okinawa in Colour from 1900, and from 1200-1600 is The Pacific War in Colour. I'm starting to like this lock down!

I think "super fleet" is just a tad OTT

I might have mentioned this earlier in the thread, one of my favourite things to do during this film is to check out the medals worn by the Carry On team and see how much effort has gone in to authenticity.

I was looking at them today and checking to see if the characters had some of the same medals, but have no clue as to how authentic they would have been for the period. I even went onto IMDB after it had finished to see if anyone had posted any medal howlers in the “Goofs” section. They hadn’t.

That’s joining the Medal Forum a few months back what’s done that to my poor brain, I do it all the time now lol.

Most of the medals shown are costume bling, perhaps a few Temperance medals and so on. Terry Scott and Roy Castle seem to be wearing a copy of the Punjab Medal with two clasps. This is the only medal I can identify.

From some of the stories about the cast - there's your howler already

I watched the Flying for Britain with David Jason programme on ITV recently. This was a very good commemorative documentary for the Battle of Britain 80th Anniversary. I believe it was a follow up to a previous one. They took him up in a helicopter so he could observe the display team up close in their historic planes. Fabulous display with Hurricane and Spitfires surrounding the Lancaster in formation.

Return to Hardwick: Home of the 93rd Bomb Group”, 9.30pm tonight on PBS America (Freeview 91, SKY 174, Freesat 155). It repeats tomorrow at 1pm and 3.40pm.

Descendants of those who served with the 93rd travel to Norfolk to explore its airbase. I hadn’t realised it was on last night, but my brother watched it and just told me it’s well worth the watch. He also added a “recommend watching as the credits roll” post script...

I hope that some of the members might enjoy this as it is A) 1939, B) military and C) History
On Netflix they are showing "The Dig" probably fine as a film but this is the story behind it.
I took my wife to the east coast for a 60th Birthday treat some years ago. Coming from the West Country she wanted to go somewhere different and suggested the East Coast. I used to give talks on Anglo Saxon History which she never attended. As we drove down a lane in quiet countryside she shrieked "Saxons" but too late, we were already there. She actually enjoyed the visit and will watch the film on the telly and hopefully not snore!

Three of us watched The Dig and really enjoyed it, no one dozed off. It was very well acted, not over emotional, well filmed and acted.
We are however all history buffs.

Just watching The Train. Perfect for a disgusting day weather-wise and it’s not at all bad. Hadn’t heard of it before.
