The wind is the reason I am staying in my office just now and not venturing out onto the quagmire I like to call a sports field.
Snowed here two nights in a row. All gone by each late morning, even from our shady back garden. Am sitting in our living room, weak blue skies but with sunshine flooding through open windows and in flies a wasp!
Meteorological winter ends Sat night - if no snow by then this will be the first time I've spent a winter in the UK without experiencing some snow.
Drought, fire, flood and now early snow. Someone in the Australian pantheon must be having a rory. Australia's wild summer sees blast of snow
Yesss ... first real snow in Holland ... though only in the extreme southern region ... the Dutch panhandle of the Province of Limburg ...
That landscape is quite Bruegel-esque. The church towers in snow remind me of his 'Hunters in the snow'.
'tis been rather wet this winter, following the dustbowl-like Autumn. Weather wonks are predicting 4-6 inches of rain Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. At least the nearby rivers are ensconced well within their banks at present, so maybe not another bout of floods this week. I've always understood that you did, thus the terms Canadian Air Mass, Frigid Canadian Air. Arctic Blast from Canada, and Canadian Cold Front. We certainly don't send any warm, most Gulf air your way. We don't like to spread our misery. Not everyone should have to swim in the air like we do during the summer. Whew, glad you aren't referring to me, as I am most decidedly not a "Yank." Anything south of around the 38th parallel and east of roughly 105° W, then that is considered fighting words by the natives.
I beg to differ but being Canadians we blame the Gulf and not U.S. citizens. The snowstorm is expected to start on Sunday morning and continue into Monday. Sherry Miller is a meteorologist with Environment Canada. She said an intense - and huge - low pressure system coming from the south is the culprit. "The low is sort of forming in the Texas/Colorado area, and has a lot of moisture with it," she said. "Because it is coming from the warm Gulf air, near Texas. And it is heading up toward Ontario, moving up over the Lake Superior area." Miller said the low pressure system is expected to bring snow and blowing snow to areas near western Lake Superior Sunday and Monday. She said some areas could see in excess of 25 cm of snow by Monday afternoon. 12/27/2019 Bobby, There is a regionally based, internal U.S. distinction about who is and who is not a Yank. No one outside the U.S. differentiates, it means y'all.
re: Yank. I'm trying to edumacate the world, one forum post at a time. The Yanks live over to the northeast US, where you smell all the rotting fish. I'm sure you didn't see that the weather wonk capitalized the words "the south" as she spoke. She knew that this grand area is known as The South. Who is this Bobby?
