Last night the Berlin Branch of the British Legion had their annual Robert Burns night and a good time was had by all. There were approximately 100 people in attendance and we were entertained by a few members of the 'Black Kilts' Pipes and drum band. The Haggis was Piped around the tables and the ceremonial Haggis speach was made, followed by the toast with Scottish Whiskey. The Haggis tasted wonderful and everyone enjoyed the food. There was a raffle and I was fortunate enough to purchase one of the lucky tickets and my better half came away with a Laptop computer bag and carrying case. Now I have to buy a laptop! It was a little too dark for my camera and so here are the few pictures that were taken. The first photo is of the Treasurer Dietmar, parading the Haggis. The second is me and my better half Anja. The third to fifth are the Pipers and drummers. The band is all German, from Spandau and Charlottenburg, but play well considering how difficult it is. Regards Tom
Is that a vampire haggis as I think the guy holding it has been bitten. Nice to put a face to a name, Tom. And hello to your lovely better half! Thanks mate.
Tom - Looks like a good night, as you say, and was well enjoyed by all - Anja - in fact you both look well - might have been the Haggis of course.....laptops are getting cheaper of course to-day Cheers
Wills, The RBL Berlin Branch had our Burn's Night last Saturday so as not to clash with the others being held locally. The evening was a great success and everyone thought that the haggis meal was the best ever-me included! It was most hectic having to set the venue up on the morning and clear everything before we left due to functions the night before and the day after, but well worth the efforts as our members really enjoyed themselves. Lots pictures on our website. The Royal British Legion Berlin Branch Burns Night 19th Jan 2013 - Berlin Branch - The Royal British Legion. Regards Tom
Tom, I always enjoy Burns Nights and Haggis (and me a sassenach), glad to see the 'Preston clan' making a presence. Attached a photo from my mate's wedding last year, I was Best Man (second from right with the most hair!) and a great time was had by all.
Went to a Burns night in Singapore once, it coincided with Chinese New Year - Haggis and Dim Sums, most unusual
Apologies Tom for using your old thread. Didn't realise a love song could trigger such a response. Have a good one.
