Evening all. Having just read this story on the BBC News website re the new James Bond film I have a question. Billie Eilish to sing the new James Bond theme Will Daniel Craig be taking the Victor Mature role? Kind regards, always, Jim.
Clive! Not even this classic? Two decent actors. (forgive any ads please). And plot note, fisticuffs not as result of fare increases. Kind regards, always, Jim.
All these years I ass-u-med he was talking about the 7.65 Luger round. PPK is 7.65 Browning/.32 ACP. Hardly like a brick through a plate glass window.
Also .357 and .44 magnums but revolvers were never as cool, unless you were Dirty Harry, of course. Or Patton:
Dave and Chris, I think the calibre choice was driven by the fact that given Bond's sartorial elegance and supposed low profile his superiors did not want a bulging weapon beneath his jacket, Steady the Buffs! Kind regards, always, Jim.
Yes, I did think of Webleys but they would have been far too big! I've seen most of the Bond movies and will probably see the next one too, although I think "Casino Royale" was Daniel Craig's best so far. (I didn't go to see "Spectre" in the theatre.)
As far as guns go, this is extensively covered on the many Bond sites out there. Initially Bond was carrying a little .25 Beretta, he got the PPK later. As to a new movie...well, Bond was a creature of the 60s and I think he should stay there. Let the man retire.
I used to pack a piece in the late sixties going to Saturday morning pictures or just general carry out and about.
Incidentally BBC Sounds recently repeated some of their audio adaptations of the original Bond novels... BBC Radio 4 Extra - James Bond - Available now i.e. BBC Radio 4 Extra - James Bond, Moonraker Which tend to have a bit more of a ww2 / post ww2 theme. Ex-Nazi's era plots etc. Moonraker (novel) - Wikipedia
