Scientists analysing a meteorite have discovered the oldest material known to exist on Earth. They found dust grains within the space rock - which fell to Earth in the 1960s - that are as much as 7.5 billion years old. The oldest of the dust grains were formed in stars that roared to life long before our Solar System was born. Oldest material on Earth discovered
It sounds like you've reached that magical age where anything older than you are is cause for celebration.
Clive can hold on to his coins a little longer. It looks like we colonials might be coughing up. Will Canada foot the security bill for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle?
A former RCMP officer who has done royal protection duty was on the Beeb this morning. He pointed out that the Canadian Federal government has always paid for royal protection and has a constitutional obligation to do so (so nowt to do with Trudeau's decisions). He did say in this case there might be some under the counter reimbursement of some of the costs though.
Oldest material on Earth discovered ..... and the newest? https://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/2020/01/13/living-robots-created-scientists-turn-frog-cells-entirely-new/
Same old material (frogs have been around for yonks) just a new and rather creepy use. The idea that they could reproduce is worrying - could one merely replace one problem with another? These biobots sound much like an artificial slime mould
The Canadian Federal government has always paid for protection, but only for occasional royal visits of limited duration. The scenario for permanent residence is unprecedented and the annual security costs for that are obviously an entirely different order of magnitude. Their security detail is an estimated $1 million per year in the U.K. and would likely cost more in North America.
The Canadian Federal Government paid for Royal Protection for Prince Andrew when he spent 9 months at a school in Canada - no sweat!
