Hi everyone, I just thought I would drop in and say hello after joining just there. My names Jack, I am 21 years old and have a keen interest in the Second World War... British Army, Wehrmacht, anything to do with that time period. I have travelled to numerous WW2 points of interest across the world, from Normandy to Stalingrad to Burma. My main interest is in the Thai-Burma Death Railway. Over the past four years, I have been going back and forth to Thailand and Myanmar(Burma), riding on the original route, visiting former POW camps, war graves and museums along the track. I love meeting veterans, getting my picture with them and hearing their stories first hand. I have met British and American veterans of numerous campaigns but would love to meet a German veteran and hear their story as well, however this is proven to be rather difficult. I am also a serving soldier in the British Army reserves. Cheers, Jack.
I'd just like to be the first to say 'You stupid boy'. Somebody has to. It's a byelaw or something. Now we've got that over with - welcome aboard.
Welcome to the forum. I've been thinking of late that the average age of the membership is a bit old. Thanks for helping to bring it down a bit.
Welcome Jack, great to have you here When I was 21 everything was still in black and white and “the net” was something kids used to catch sticklebacks with, sigh... By the way, given your main interest and assuming you’ve not read it yet, I would highly recommend Russell Braddon’s “The Naked Island”. Some well priced (used) copies on AbeBooks, for example.
Haha thanks very much. I actually have not read that so I will be sure to check it out, thanks for the recommendation .
