Does anyone have a copy of A History of the Queen's Bays (2nd Dragoon Guards) 1929-1945 by Major General W. R. Beddington?

If so could someone check the index to see if Lt. Peter Harold Jackson MC is mentioned please? It would most likely be around April-May 1943 section of the book if he is mentioned.

    Many thanks.

He is mentioned, but only that he was awarded an MC. It doesn't say anything about what he did to get it.

Afraid not, the book comes to a pretty abrupt end with the end of the war in Italy.

Thank you everyone. I have his MC citation and a photo and there is information on para data as well, I was just wondering if the book had anything to add but now I know it doesn't.

No need for war diary, but thank you. His story will appear in my new book. Albeit just a page. I hope we may be able to trace a relative at some point.

I'd be grateful for WD / Beddington for the 24th May 1940 - death in action of 2Lt Richard Harcourt Webb...

    TIA!

Andy, do you happen to have the diary for Jan-Dec 1944, or is June- Dec. I'm more interested in the 20th September 44! I took a few photos of a memorial. Has far has I'm aware, its the only memorial to any British Tank Regiment that is in Italy?

    Mark,

is yours a original copy of the Regimental History? The last time i looked it was going for silly money! I would have to check all the photos that i have, but i think the memorial was erected in the 1960's? I would like to start a different thread. Can you post a image of the contents page when you get the chance?

    Regards,
    Stu.

Stuart Avery, I have copies of all the war diaries for the Bays, I shall look this up for you when at my PC, in the morning (Australian time).

I have an original copy of the Regimental history; it was my Grandfather’s who served with the Bays during the war.

in a quick reply, that will do for the moment. I may be able to borrow the history off another chap from a Library that he uses?

Time to put them to good use in a thread once I've done some reading.

    Thanks.

I was not expecting that.;) That is brilliant. I'm just reading the chapter on the Gothic Line- Regimental Fire The H.A.C. 11 Regiment. I will have to check, but i think three of the chaps are on the memorial? A smart lady made a note of the Latitude & Longitude numbers when we was there. Never seen a watch do that before. By the looks of it, i think I'm going to be wrong in which decade the memorial was erected.

    Nice-one & thanks.

    Regards,
    Stu.

    Stu,

You are correct three of the members of the 11 HAC Regiment are listed on the memorial.

Peter Willet in his Book 'Armoured Horseman: With the Bays and Eighth Army in North Africa and Italy' (ISBN: 9781473834217) notes on page 126:

The images of the Bays Regimental History can be downloaded from here: Dropbox - The Queen Bays 1929-1945 - Simplify your life.
