Thank you all for your input
But dad was with the 2nd para BATTALION
    From 10.10.41
    Also dates of 1.4.42
    2.2.43
    1.4.44
    Apparently qualified 3.12.41
So from 41 to 44 he was in and out the 2nd para BATTALION
So he had had lots of training before d-day
So why not send him if that's what your saying on the biggest invasion in ww2 ??

Not saying he wasn’t trained airborne more that he had not been present with the unit when they would’ve been rehearsing their specific role for D Day.

    It's a mystery
Carnt see why he would of spoke about being dropped into ranville at 00.50 hours on 6th june if he hadn't been there.
I'll get to bottom of it.
There must be somewhere where I can find out who dropped on d-day
Or more in depth from a museum
Any ideas where to re search

Sorry I can’t help anymore. I was just drawing your attention to the anomaly in the records.

I’m no airborne expert but I’m sure others will be able to assist. I’ve seen experts on the forum provide breakdowns of men in individual planes so there is likely some conclusive proof out there

    Good Luck

    Steve

    EDIT TO ADD

This document you posted previously has relevant entries about his whereabouts May until July 1944. I note he was AWOL in UK late June 1944.

    Hi,

I can only refer back to the records you’ve posted.

According to his B103 above he was with Airborne Forces Holding Unit from mid May 1944 until posting to 12 Para 26th July (rear echelon in UK?) and was physically sent to the Battalion in NWE 8th August 1944.

    Hi,

In the build up to D Day personnel in units earmarked to participate in the invasion would be held in sealed camps immediately prior to embarkation.

I doubt that was feasible long term in a Holding Unit - in reality a home based reinforcement unit - as the need for any secrecy would pass after 6th June and the men would be fed to a unit in Normandy in stages as required.

    EDIT TO ADD

    From Paradata site -

The No 1 Airborne Forces Holding Unit was was one of a series of units established during the Second World War to accommodate newly qualified military parachutists and soldiers who had not yet been assigned to active airborne forces units.
