    Ramacal.

Would you mind posting the 6 LINCOLNS's War Diary for 8-9 Sep 44. I am keen to see the CO's original plan for the battalion's attack on Point 414, Tribbio and Point 449.

    Regards

    Frank

Ramacal sent me the 6th Lincs War Diary for Sept 44 a while back.
So in case he misses the request i'll post them up in his stead.
Also added a coloured Gemmano map similiar to the one previously posted from the 6th Y & L War Diary 6th Lincs WD 8-9-1944.JPG 6th Lincs WD 9-9-1944.JPG Gemmano Map (6 Y & L).jpg

Frank Richardson (Lt) was my great uncle and presumably one of the 3 officers listed as killed. Thank you for this information on behalf of all his family. Any more information gratefully received.

    Knockando.

I have a copy of The History of the Sixth Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment and your great uncle is listed is the Roll of Honour as Lieutenant FH Richardson.

I am a battlefield tour guide so if you send me your email address through Start a Conversation I will happily send you my notes and the supporting mapping. I am out there with a group in Apr 18 so if you would like a photograph of his headstone, I would be happy to get you one. I will tip my hat to him too.

    Regards

    Frank

Would you by chance have the WDs for 6 LINCOLNS during their time in the Cassino area - Nov 43 to Mar 44?

    Regards

My dad, Pte Robert D Cree (army no.1637180), was in the 6th Lincolns and was wounded at Gemmano on the 9th September 1944. I don't know the details, although by the sounds of it it's likely to have been artillery or shell injury. This page has been a great help to me as I am attempting to trace his war record. He was subsequently captured at Faenza on 9th December 1944 and ended up at Stalag 7a on Xmas day!

According to the Nominal Roll Lists, he was called up in 1944. Found his name in book number REGI 3-25, Page number 116. POW was crossed out ? He was then transferred to the Royal West Kents on 20 August 1946.

This is fantastic info! Thanks so much! I wish I'd done this years ago. Yes he was transferred from the Middle East in 1944 to Italy. He was captured on 9th December (I'm assuming from the 6th Batt book that was captured at Faenza bridgehead?) and was at Stalag VIIa Moosburg until it was liberated by the Americans in April. I think actually the camp was the worst part of the war for him due to the appalling conditions of the place by then. Terrible things happened there.
Once home he struggled to adapt back to civilian life. Just wanted to be by himself up the allotment, but it was hard because of all the questions from family, and the sheer ordinariness of life back home. Couldn't take it, so, despite hating the war, the army and authority of any kind, he joined the West Kent. I think he was in Germany.
Thanks again for the info. This has made me very happy and keener than ever to find out everything I can.

    Kind regards,
    Bob

This diary is such a find. Thank you. Amazing to think my dad was there, amongst all that horror. Poor man.
