Hello all, I am in need of help from someone who can decipher / read the lines of text on the following photo please...I know its 6th Fld Regt to start with, that ties up with Palestine. Looks like it starts with "Posted to..." And the last line, is that really 76 HAA Regt ? I can't find anything that ties up with that for 1946 - 1948 ?? Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks.
Just as an extra pair of eyes - to me it does look like "Posted to HAA Branch RA" and then "76 HAA Regt", assuming the author wrote their capital "A"s like that. Pat A sketchy Google about suggests 76th HAA Regiment was wound down in Italy after VE Day; maybe it was reconstituted, or something? Wait - this link suggests it was active in 1947 in Libya, at least
Cheers Pat...yes does look like what you say...any ideas on the next line ? After MELF, which I presume is Middle East Land Forces ?? Saw that link to Libya previously, but I can't tie that to his army records, but its not a million miles from Palestine, where he was with 6th Field Reg... Trying desperately to fill some gaps before he left the army for the reserve, before re-enlisting a little later, which I have records of...very frustrating indeed !!!
Charley, that "Change" bit...I am sure is 'Change' followed with an abbreviated Address'. ... previous entries have 'change of address' also later entries too... So maybe its 'Change of address' then on next line, ?? who knows ??? I get the feeling these clerks were trainee doctors, and were perfecting their prescription handwriting ??
Ah, I see what you mean. Are we sure then that the first part is 'Posted to HAA Branch RA.'? Could it be 'Posted to HAA Branch' Req. Change of add(ress). [Requiring]?
Hi, My reading/interpretation is - Change to HAA Branch RA Change (of) Adm(inistration) to OIC (?? LAA) Records Steve
67 Ind Regt - Posted to HAA Branch RA - Change of Admin MELF - To ? in RA (Group HAA) Records - 76 HAA Regt Found this link which refers to RHQ 6th Field Regiment being redesignated RHQ 67th Training Regiment, RA: British Army units from 1945 on - 60th to 67th Regiments RA
By chance, looking at my dad's AB64 this morning I notice; "...this book will be forwarded to you by the O. i/c Records" ...which means the Officer in charge of Records. So I think your second line is; "...to O. i/c Ra (xxxxx ) Records."
Is there any chance it is "...O i/c RA (CD + AA) Records"? Bloody hard to read, that. CDAA was an abbreviation for 'Coast Defence & Anti-Aircraft'. Cropped up in this thread: Help, looking for anything about my Grandfather
well he was deffo 6th Fld Reg RA in Palestine, and think we have concluded its 76 HAA next posting...all I have to do is pin down an 'actual' date...then I can ask if anyone knows what 76 HAA were doing / where were they...around the end of 1946 and into 1947 ???
