    Hi
I have a letter from my grandfather who I believe was in the Essex Regiment and was stationed in Burma in 1944. He has signed a letter 6.D.R.E F.T.U India Command. Does anyone have any clue what these numbers and letter mean?
    Many thanks

Was he hospitalised at or around the time of writing?

F.T.U. files at the National Archives are medical corps: Forward Transfusion Unit.

Though I have to say, 'T' very often turns out to be training.

He is unlikely to have been 'stationed' in Burma in 1944 - more likely in India, especially as it is in 'India Command'.

It sounds as if you are rather unsure of your grandfather's Regiment or his Battalion. You will only be able to confirm this by obtaining his service record. Once you have that you will be able to find out where he went and some likely locations from which letter was written. A long way round but the most certain way of discovering more.
