It would be churlish to bring up the Monty Python Lumberjack song sketch (but I'm sure Google/U tube can) Over here we also had Lumber Jills in WW2 and oft forgotten Lumber Romeos (Italian POWs used for forestry work long after Italy had changed sides.
Actually, Dave55 predicted a few hours that the Lumberjack song posting was inevitable. No matter, it fits with the theme, sort of.
Lots of good photos of lumberjack photos in IWM collection. Search our collection | Imperial War Museums
Chainsaws the one power tool that really give me the willies. At a mate's coppicing/charcoal site years ago & a bloke from the HSE turned up, touting jamming trousers with a large folder of chainsaw injury pics. No such thing as slight chainsaw blade injuries. Wear the trousers... Retain your willies. I would not be OK as a lumberjack. Axes are very pleasing, though.
You are absolutely correct. I grew up in a northern town where a high proportion of the households owned both firearms and chainsaws. Chainsaws were by far the most hazardous of the two implements. Rarely lethal but they left ugly scars. Definitely not a tool for amateurs.
Canuck, Your avatar photo. Pray tell, is that a pic of Justin Trudeau? Perhaps taken when he was younger?
Chain saws! I'm still considering upgrading to a new fangled metal axe - people keep telling me that flint has had its day but I say lets not get hasty after all it's a well proven solution. But seriously I had to use a chain saw many years ago to clear a badly overgrown end of a large garden where what was once a simple hedge had not been seen to for over 30 years. It did the job and I discovered I owned a summer house I didn't know was on the property, but I wasn't happy using it.
