GSGS maps

Hi Guys.
Does anyone know of a reputable source for purchasing GSGS maps? I know you can view them at the British Library and there are various sources to view online but I’d like a few “hard” copies that I can mark up for my own purpose.

I'm not aware of anyone that provides hard copies save for the odd special or commemorative issue.

Most GSGS series have a parallel AMS (American) number, so it's worth Googling both (if you can deduce them) as some US universities, or the Library of Congress, have downloadable scans which they usually classify as public domain.

A lot of print shops ought to be capable of large format printing but no idea of costs.

Thanks chaps, yes my local printer can scan and print to any size. Just want to get 1 good copy of a couple of maps then they can copy them.

 

Which specific maps are you looking for? One of us may already have a copy.

Have found this great website with all the sheets on, but some are £30 to buy. Don’t mind paying but that’s a bit steep!

 

He's got the first two at least:

GSGS 4414 Series - Germany 1:25000

And as digital downloads you won't have to pay to get it scanned before you print it.

Yes. On the plus side, the ones I had were very good scans, though obviously that depends on the state of the originals.

Certainly a lot easier and economical than trying to wrest them from the grasp of the BL.

 

Never understood why they don’t do a scan and sell service.

 

The maps on Landkartenarchiv.de are sourced from Brigham Young University (BYU) - German Maps which can be downloaded. Note that these are post-war editions with the Universal Transverse Mercator grid. Grid references used in World War 2 used different grids systems. These same BYU post war GSGS 4414 maps can also be downloaded from Mapster.

If you want to download maps with the wartime Nord de Guerre Zone Grid used for most of Germany they can be downloaded from McMaster University. The three that you mention are all available.

Like the IWM they've priced themselves out of the 'amateur' market because they want to retain control of out of copyright information by means of expensive licencing agreements.

 

GSGS 4414 sheet 4205 on the McMaster site is the black and white version with new grid lines. I'm after the colour version with the grid lines that match the war diaries. So, on battlefield historian web page they have the one I need, £20 download. It was just a link to the McMaster site! not happy at all and still ongoing!

I'm been trying to find a copy of this map, without success for years. If anyone can help, that would be brilliant. I've got a trace in was diary, but not an actual map.
