12834 (but some research has him as 12835) John James ARMITAGE RFA - a very good write up of him here My Armitage / Pinnuck Family History: John James Armitage (1881-1953), decorated soldier , he was awarded the DCM with citation

"12835 Battery Sergeant Major Armitage J, 458th Battery, Royal Field Artillery. For conspicuous gallantry, ability and resource throughout the operations from 18th April to the 16th May 1915, around Ypres. He invariably showed exceptional courage and coolness under fire. On one or two occasions of unusual emergency he acted with great ability and judgement, and rendered invaluable service"

According to the website listed above he was also Mentioned in Despatches 3 times, Commisioned, had temporary exhaustion and was wounded, so a very active War - as well as having already served in South Africa and India. The link mentions his service records but I have been struggling to find them on Ancestry or Findmypast - even struggled with his medal index card, I can only see the DCM one

    Hi Alastair,

Might his lack of MIC be due to his failure to apply for his Campaign Medals?

Officers had to apply post WW1.

As an officer his papers will be held at Kew - sometimes you find copies of the non commissioned papers on Ancestry/FMP (if they survived 1940 bombing) but not always.

    Hi Steve,
Its possible he didn't apply, also possible I'm just being a nugget with my searches - sometimes I struggle (mostly with Ancestry) to find something obvious and then when I eventually do there is no clear reason why it previously failed.

I guess the easy option is to get in touch with the person who has the webpage - seems sensible to share scans and hopefully get some info or copies in return.

Thanks for that, he is reasonably well covered in a few places, he has recorded his story and there is a transcript available, but nothing I could see about his OBE.
