D-Day, Normandy: On which beach did 1st Bn Rifle Brigade land?

I am trying to find out which beach my father landed in on D Day. He was in the 1st Batt Rifle Brigade.
The 50th Division landed on Gold but The 3rd Division landed on Sword.
He was a desert rat in the 8th Army and went to Normandy on 4.6.44 till 21.7.44.
His war record says NW Europe 1/RB39/44 on his posting to NW Europe.
Can anyone help. My daughter, his granddaughter, is travelling to Normandy tomorrow August 3rd 2019. We have been trying for two months to find out.

It's very unlikely he landed on D-Day itself. Apart from advance parties, 7th Armoured Division started landing on 7th June and it was the best part of a week until most of yhe division was ashore.

On the plus side, he would have almost certainly landed at Gold Beach. Have you any idea which part of the battalion he was with: company/platoon?

I’ve asked Admin to move your post to its own topic to attract more informed members.

I can’t find anything specifically about 1st RB on D Day but this site says 22nd Armoured Brigade landed on the evening of 6th June 1944 - although the whole Brigade wasn’t ashore until the following evening.

It says that they started to assemble behind 50th Division who landed on Gold beach -

all i know is his service no 6918116. His unit was 1/RB39/44.
From 22.7.44 to 13.4 45 it says 50/44 and something else I can't decipher. Dont know of this helps.

Do you know if he was wounded or became a prisoner of war?

21/7/44 is Operation Goodwood where 7 Armd Div were the third of three armd divs in a big attack near Caen. As we were advancing, getting captured seems less likely but perhaps the 22/7/44 to 13/4/45 might relate to being wounded or sick.

I suspect 39/44 and 50/44 are serial numbers for the battalion's admin orders where he joins and (maybe) leaves them. As Di suggests, we might be able to pick more out of a scan.

He may have boarded vessels to cross the channel on the 4th but it seems they didnt set foot on French soil until 7th June 1944

Thank you so much. The second set of dates did say something that looked like 'home ". I know he ended up the hospital for nervous diseases in London. He was discharged as medically unfit with 20% disability. It says he was agitated.

Unfortunately, I don't have the war diaries for July. I've had a very quick look at what I've got for June but he's not jumped out - though it's unusual for personnel to be named in the diaries.
