Hi Kip, what was the date this was taken? You allude to it being a couple of months after D-Day, I think?

Also do you know whether the colour footage of Canadian troops embarking is something I could watch online?

The film title is 'D Day' but the reel is dated Dec 1944, so that is the reason I have left it deliberately vague. It is clear from the US coats it must be winter but I believe Rosie re edited to make it look as though they are all leaving on 6 June.

I was very busy over the 75 anniversary re editing a lot of my videos and if you go to my Channel on YouTUBE you will see a video called Southampton on D Day which got over 10,000 views on facebook. (This is clearly 5 June). You can also see a video on Beaulieu Airfield actually on D Day!!!

It's not Dunkirk related is it?

All, I have spoken to a friend who is ex-REME and he thinks by the colour of their berets the troops on the quayside might be from the Anglian regiment. Kip

    Kip,
That is a great series of films. What a pity that Southampton alllowed Portsmouth to steal it's thunder by not marking the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

Roy, I was caught on the hop re;anniversary and spent the few weeks up to the ceremony updating. It was too late to organise anything but posted my films on facebook which was a great consolation! As you must realise Southampton was the real springboard for D-Day not Portsmouth! Kip

The clue was in the colour of the beret.

Well, if it is written in bold and big font it must be true!

Although, of course, there was no East Anglian Regt in 1944.

Just goes to show you should not believe everything you read in bold and big font or italics.

    TD,

Thanks for reminding me of the terrible day over 40 years ago when my beastly older brother helped me pile "sugar" on top of my Weetabix (other cereals are available) and then laughed when I took an enormous bite of salt-laden biscuit and proceeded to vomit into the kitchen sink. I have booked myself in for a couple of counselling sessions and will be sending you the bill!:-P

    Regards

    Tom
