Royal Engineers with the BEF didn't wear sewn-on shoulder titles. Depending on when he transferred, he may or may not have worn them in the UK or elsewhere. Prior to action on 10th May he may have worn slip-on titles like these...certainly on return to the UK. If he was with a second-line unit, he may well have gone to France wearing Service Dress with brass titles...and may have kept them on his greatcoat at least...It seems that you're asking for expert advice but disinclined to provide complete background information....but I'd be surprised if anyone on here was prepared to put their reputation on the line without knowing the units and dates invloved...there were simply too many variations.

  3. Thanks for you response Rich, I would clarify I am not disinclined to provide further information, because I have and will be happy to repost the request with further details in more specific threads. I am a novice in this area and this is why I have asked for assistance from people with the same keen interest but with more knowledge.

You are the first person to advise that the answer could vary based on dates etc, I’ll happily repost at a later date with as much details as I have.

    Regards

I posted 2 x different Royal Artillery in #21 above as they are from different dates and different uses

Knowing what dates you are after/seeing the service records would alleviate some of the questions

  5. My Grandfather joined the RA 15/07/1940, deployed to Iceland 20/03/1941 with the 52nd Light AA Battery, he was posted to North West Europe 04/03/1945. Any help with the RA shoulder titles?

The Pioneer Corps titles are horrible modern reproductions. The REME ones are post war at least, copies at most.

  7. These are reports I've had back about my Grandfather & Great Uncle's WW2 service, all I know from a picture I have is that Herbert Massingham wore the Polar Bear badge of the 49th West Riding Division while serving in Iceland. What I'd like to know from the original post, is what titles the would've had on their uniforms and as they changed regiments what Divisional badge would they have worn. Any other details of regimental badges would be greatly appreciated.
