I think the Scammell is also in use , hitched to the French half track .
    Nice pics.

Although I mostly collect POW photos I have acquired a few others from 1940 - would it be ok to post them on this thread? I can’t guarantee they’ll be as good as some of the ones Keith had put up and some might be familiar to those who take a particular interest in this period.

Thanks. I’m actually a bit surprised at how many I seem to have accumulated over the past couple of years - especially seeing as I’m not actively collecting them. Sometimes I just see interesting images while hunting for the POW stuff and if it’s not too expensive I take a punt.

Posting these actually made me think about the civilians caught in the middle of the fighting. We tend to focus on the armies and the soldiers a forget that all these towns and cities were full of innocents whose homes and livelihoods were wrecked by the war machine as it passed through.

The flimsy, officially known as the Petrol, Oil , can. ATS with cooker made out of them, hope they do not have petrol in them. They did use them for water as well.

I've identified the location for these:

    upload_2019-6-29_19-53-53.jpeg

    Google Maps

The wide shot includes at least four of 12th Lancers' abandoned Morris armoured cars and there is perhaps another one behind the French Unic P107 BU half-track further up the canal.

Excellent photographs, pity we cannot put locations to them. The canal looks familiar to one I drove at the side of between Dunkirk and Calais....at one point, it appeared to be wider than the view here.

No captions at the back of the German personnel photographs,is there?

Not much information on most of mine I’m afraid. Usually all you get is “France 1940” or “Dunkirk June 1940” very rarely do you get anything more specific.

Looking further, the canal might be a section of the Canal de Bourbourg which flows south then west between Dunkirk and Bourbourg,ie in the Calais direction. The D2 skirts the canal on the east then the south side as it progresses in the Calais direction. From that, I think Richelieu's post shows a car travelling in the direction of Calais on the D2.

Harry, at least one of us is confused.

If you follow the ‘Google Maps’ link that I provided on post #34 it will take you to the location on the D601 just south of Bray-Dunes to the east of Dunkirk.
