    JUNE 9, 1941: MANSFIELD, DENNIS JOHN. Flight Sergeant (Observer) (751041). Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, 9 Sqdn. Plot 3, Row AB, Grave 6. Temporary burial: Zeebrugge Churchyard, Belgium.
    Wellington Ic T2620 WS-G took off from RAF Honington at 15.36hrs for a reconnaissance operation off the coast of France and Belgium and to attack enemy shipping in the Belgium and Dutch coastal sweep. Three other aircraft form No 9 Squadron took off on the same operation. Two returned safely, but reported that they had been attacked by Me 109s. The rear gunner of one of these aircraft reported seeing a Wellington being attacked by two Me 109s (German Fighter planes) and that black smoke was seen coming from this Wellington. (Aircrew Remembered).

    JUNE 9, 1945: PREFONTAINE, EDWIN LUCIEN (age 26). Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Private (D/108538). Royal Canadian Infantry Corps. Died accidentally. Gunshot wound though head. "If somebody asks for me I am gone on a drunk. As far as you know I am gone as of 1700 hrs today 9 June 45. That is all there is there is left for me. So long boys, Eddy." Plot 10, Row A, Grave 1.

    This Whitley Z6479 was intercepted on their return journey by two German night-fighters. One of these was shot down. The British were hit by the second German fighter, piloted by Ofw. Reinhard Kollack, 1/ NJG1. They crash-landed at 02.26 hrs, on Tenhaagdoorn heathland near Houthalen, Limburg, Belgium. 3 out 5 crew members were killed in action.

    LEBLANC, CHARLES EMILE (age 20). Belle Cote, Iverness Co., Nova Scotia. Flight Sergeant (Pilot) (R/76272). Royal Canadian Air Force, 419 Sqdn. Awarded the Operational Wings. Plot 12, Row G, Grave 1.
    Wellington X3359 crash landed with Pilot Le Blanc found dead behind the wheel of command. The others managed to bail out. Two were taken POW. They were on a raid to Essen, Germany.

    Lancaster ME683 EM-W and its crew was on a mission to Wesseling, Germany. They were shot down by Major Heinz Wolfgang Schnaufer of Geschwader NJG4 over Meeuwen, Belgium.
