Lt. Col David Baynes 2/7th Bn Queens RR at Anzio
His children are hoping to find someone who served with him at Anzio. Please get in touch by email if you have any information. We visited the Caves in March 2019 and now have more queries than answers

Hello and welcome to the forum.
(I've tidied up your post as there were some odd broken links in it.)

    What queries do you have?

Have you applied for copy service records? Request records of deceased service personnel

Have you looked at official war diaries?

These are held at National Archives, Kew:

    Home Forces series

    WO 166/8840 2/7 Queen's Royal Regiment (West Surrey) 1942 Jan.-Aug.

    British Expeditionary Force series
    WO 167/812 2/7 Queen's Royal Regiment (West Surrey) 1940 Apr.-June

hello, I am not sure I have posted correctly or in the right place. My brother and I are just keen to see if there is anyone out there who experienced the Battle of the Caves at Anzio. we visited in March with a local, reasonably knowledgable guide but our visit has raised more questions!

    Hello
Don't worry, the thread is fine where it is and can easily be moved to another forum area if you wish.

The reason behind my reply above boils down to this: What is it you want to know?

    • The answers to at least some questions might well be contained in the War Diaries listed above. These are contemporary records, written usually by the battalion's Intelligence Officer and approved/signed off daily by the Commanding Officer.

    • Should someone find your appeal here - they might either have served in the battalion or know a veteran who did - it might encourage a response if you listed your questions here.

    Good luck with your research.
