Thank you very much for the add, I have a ships wheel which I have been trying to identify it is aluminium with coat of protective covering. I have searched the net and there is one listed on a aircraft spares website 'Spitfirespares.com which is the same as the one I have. Anyone have opinion on this?

    Mike,

Of the smaller landing crafts the only one I could find with a somewhat similar wheel is the LCP(S) or the Landing Craft Personnel (Small). Unfortunately the photo from a PDF is not very clear and I can't find anything better at the moment. The inner ring could be a mounting column for the wheel itself?

    Anyway a possibility?

    Regards ...

    Hi Cee
Thanks for looking into this, I've enlarged the image I don't think this is the wheel the handles seem a lot longer

Might be a hand wheel for a large valve?

The wheel has a round casting, on my one top right where a handle would have been, not something that you would have thought to have on a valve wheel.... The materials it's made of suggests military and having it cast would suggest that quite a number would have been produced.

    Hi,
It looks similar to the wheel in the Steering Gear Room at the stern of the LCI(L).

Bear in mind that there would have been several manufacturers and there were always subtle differences between manufacturers.

I have emailed the Spitfirespares website, asking the owner to clarify what makes them believe that this wheel came from a Landing Craft. Hopefully they will reply.
