I just seen a cap badge on ebay. It says cap badge to Lincolnshire regt. It is a bronze star with 8 points. Could that perhaps be what is on their caps ?
The cap badge of your grandfather, seated in front on our right in your photo, certainly looks like that of the Lincolns with the Sphinx and "Egypt" above a scroll. I'm no expert, but I have a feeling there might have been a different, star-shaped cap badge for officers? Doesn't explain the two central NCOs, though. Pretty sure someone on here will know, though! Pat
Could perhaps of been a course a section of men from the Lincolns were sent on and the two central figures are the instructors - maybe RASC?
Could anyone advise me on which particular cap badge my grandad is wearing in the photo. There seems to be quite a few different ones around. I would like to get one to put with his Polar bear badges, but not sure which one he would have worn. If anyone could link me to a picture on the net where I can see it clearer, would be great, thanks
Yes he was in 4th lincs but, when I have looked online there are several different versions on the badge. Do you think your picture is the exact type he is wearing ?
It was captioned WW2 Lincs Regt on the website. I’m no cap badge expert. My understanding is that the cap badge design will not have changed during WW2 (Royal Lincs title granted post WW2) but the material will have changed from brass to “staybrite” (anodised aluminium). Unfortunately as it is a black & white image I can only interpret the design of the cap badge not the material it is made from - but if I was having an educated guess, at a photo taken in 1942, I would say it was a brass cap badge. Steve
Staybrite didn’t come into use until 1950-ish so it would have been the bi-metal badge as posted above.
