I'm rather late to this thread & a thank-you for the heads-up from Charley. Kick my backside if I'm going off topic here, but I've just come across a book that has the title of, Quartered Safe the War in Burma . Its a first Edition & goes onto tell the tales of the 9 Battalion the Border Regiment. I do have the Story of The Border Regiment by P J. Shears that was first printed in 1948. I've also come across a book by Bickersteth (A. Charles, some time Major of 4/10 GR) ODTAA: Being Extracts from the diary of an Officer who served with the 4/10 Gurkha Rifles in Manipur & Burma .. I'm far from a expert on most things, but my thinking that this Battalion served in the 20th Indian Division. Its a first Edition of 258 pp; & was printed by Aberdeen Univ. Press in 1953. Regards, Stu.
See here for 9 Borders (one of my distractions!): 9th Border Regt Quartered Safe Out Here is one of the best military books I've ever read.
I've just realised we're missing one from the list: A Gurkha Brigade in Italy: Story of the 43rd Gurkha Lorried Brigade (Times Of India Press, 1945), 30pp.
Couple more of short histories of Indian Divisions were added on archive.org page. Not a divisional history, but I came across an Order of Battle for 44th (Later 2nd) Indian Airborne Division (1945-47). I thought it might be useful for somebody.
Great find, Charley...I'll snag it and have it ".Pdf'alized" for everyone's benefit! (Though Tom is just getting over a near/minor heart attack, so it might take several days before he can get to it).
There has been mention in previous posts about the regimental histories on fold3, a pay website. https://go.fold3.com/ Fold3 is free for the next few days. The website says "Ends Tuesday" Cheers Maureen They are listed under WW2/Military Books. Most would then be listed under India, but some could be listed elsewhere. Fold3 Browse
Another great opportunity on Fold3, as Maureen points out. Almost too much to contemplate downloading for me. The collections for Afghanistan, India and Myanmar, all have something to offer.
I had a quick look earlier. Am I missing the links to download whole books, or is it a case of downloading them a page at a time? I fear it's too hot to bother with the latter.
Yeah, a page at a time, but if you do a little at a time... Plus I have a friend that's a Wiz at combining pdf pages into an/the entire book, or if size is an issue, 2-4 parts.
The following history is now available as a pdf download from PAHAR Mountains of Central Asia Dataset Bugle and Kukri : the story of the 10th Princess Mary's Own Gurkha Rifles by Brian Reginald Mullaly 1957. http://pahar.in/wpfb-file/1957-bugl...ess-marys-own-gurkha-rifles-by-mullaly-s-pdf/ The story of the regiment to the time of the Coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, so should include WW2, although I haven't downloaded it . There should be a Download to click on. If not, look under Books, Nepal on the website Cheers Maureen
