Hi found this photo, on its back it says, "April 1945 Andy, Johnny, Duff, Buck, Brian and myself (Albert)". Perhaps you do recognise any of the people or can answer some of these questions: 1. What kind of truck is parked in the background? 2. Why is one man wearing leather jacket, were they standard issue? 3. Is there an officer amongst these men? 4. The leather jacket is not the British Army issue leather jerkin. It looks German to me and, as evidenced by Herr Flick, they went in for that sort of thing. Could the soldier nearest the camera be wearing the red rat badge of 7th Armoured Division? Best John
Unfortunately I don't have a better scan at the moment. JDKR The man nearest to the camera is my grandfather, who was with the 5th Wilts, he is wearing the Wyvern of the 43rd division and it says Wiltshire on his shoulder. What do you mean by "as evidenced by Herr Flick"? Best Chris
Hi, Must be an age or generation thing...... It’s a BBC TV comedy “cultural reference” to a German Gestapo character in Allo Allo - a long running 1980’s BBC comedy series spoofing the previously long running late 1970’s BBC drama The Secret Army about Belgian resistance/escape line characters - as Herr Flick always wore a long knee length leather coat. Hi, It was apparently broadcast on a German TV channel from 2008......pity the actors who had to dub it as part of the humour was that the actors spoke “normal” English with “cod” French accents while one particular character spoke “mangled English” with a French accent....think of Peter Sellers as Insp Clouseau Steve
