Can anyone please help with information on the Air Crew Training Wing (Polish) at Morecambe which was apparently there from sometime in 1943 until 14th November 1945. I imagine that at that time it would have been disbanded but where did the training staff go? The man I am trying to track F/Sgt (later W/O) Leon Szymanski remained in service for another year after that but all trace of him has disappeared. Many thanks
Additional information. Szymanski had completed a tour of duty which consisted of a total of 51 sorties as an air gunner with 304 Squadron in Coastal Command. He was then a F/Sgt and Air Gunner. He next appeared at Morcambe but his end of war brevet showed the letter S which I assume to be Signaller so I am not sure if he was there as a member of the training staff or if he was there actually doing further training.
Wonder if this is him England & Wales, Civil Registration Marriage Index, 1916-2005 Name: Leon Szymanski Registration Date: Oct 1946 [Nov 1946] [Dec 1946] Registration Quarter: Oct-Nov-Dec Registration district: Basford Inferred County: Nottinghamshire Spouse: Rozalia Chudzik Volume Number: 3c Page Number: 230 There are 9 results for his name shown as died in Poland - perhaps he went back, any idea of age or date of birth? He was born on 28th August 1920 at Przyjma, Konin, Poland and would be 99 years old if alive today. If I could prove his death, I could probably get his records and they would give me all the information I need. The information in your second post might prove very useful indeed. Thankyou.
I have a record of Rozalia Chudzik as an ACW1 waitress at RAF Hucknall so that is a very promising lead
None of the 9 results for death details I found had a birth year of 1920 I'm afraid, and at present I canot find a UK death for either of them. They may have emigrated to wherever, there are a number of Szymanski's in the USA, he could still be alive, death records I can access only go to 2017, she may have remarried TD
Of the 40 or so people in the Polish Air Force with the name Szymanski he was the only one named Leon, he was about the right age to have married at the time, he was stationed near Hucknall for a while and he would probably done some training there. So I think there is a very good chance that the marriage you found is the right one. There is some evidence (but very sketchy) that he was in France for a while in 1946 or 1947 but this could even have been on his honeymoon so it's not what I would call hard evidence. I will try to find out more about that

This may be totally the wrong person, but I dont have access to these records. One might assume they married in 1946 then took an assisted passage to Australia, she died in 1953, then he returned to UK and naturalised in 1963 Maybe I need to get a life or write a book with imagination like this Australia Cemetery Index, 1808-2007 results for Rozalia Szymanski Rozalia Szymanski dd mm 1953 Australia and New Zealand, Find A Grave Index, 1800s-Current Name: Rozalia Szymanski Death Date: 15 Feb 1953 Cemetery: Lutwyche Cemetery Burial or Cremation Place: Brisbane, Brisbane City, Queensland, Australia https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/135052001 TD
Write a book! If people like you and me "got a life" a lot of other people would be deprived of information about their families. I will follow up the naturalisation post. As for the Australian one, she would only be 27/28 years old if it was the same woman but anything is possible - died in childbirth, road accident etc so, as far as I can I will follow that one up too. As for the French connection, that came from Krzystek's List and they can neither confirm nor deny it. It was only hearsay evidence
More on the Queensland death: Search historical records | Your rights, crime and the law | Queensland Government Deaths are searchable up to 1989, but marriage and births have much earlier closed dates. Certificate available for $31
Thank you.. It might be worth the investment just to find out if her maiden name was Chudzik which would more or less confirm it was the same woman. The likelihood of two Leon Szymanskis both marrying a Rozalia Chudzik must be astronomical especially if this lady died aged 27/28
I must admit to having no idea about Polish naming conventions, but in this case is there any relationship between her father's first name Szymon and her surname Syzmanski? I'm thinking along the lines of some other naming conventions where one becomes 'son of' or in this case 'daughter of'.
Yes, I realize that. I was just wondering if any naming convention might preclude this from being the person you were looking for.
