My book-buying "problem"

An infinite number of NMP books will reduce the pro rata postage to approximately free so I can't really see your argument.

So far I've managed to resist Canadian histories.
Except RCAC, RCE, the army official history trilogy...

I have noticed a new strand to the problem:

1. I find a bargain from Abebooks and, listening to the voice on my left soldier, order it.
2. The bookseller receives order and realises that he/she has significantly underestimated overseas postage cost.
3. I receive an email request for an increased postage charge--typically an additional five or six quid.
4. I approve the request on the grounds that:

a) It's 'only' five or six quid.
b) It would be rude to cancel.
c) I've 'already bought it' and now it's mine and a) again.​

Result: the book is no longer a bargain and my wife is eyeing the credit card bill.

Repeat.

 

I would argue that:
1) The extra fiver is still a bit cheaper than going to collect it yourself;
2) When you're buying the good stuff, even a 'bargain' should be expensive enough to make the fiver insignificant.

I say I would argue, but tend not to these days as the better half is much better at it.

You all think this through before purchase even if done in a subliminal fashion.
So in your eyes it is a true purchase of worth therefore not a problem.

I get sent several books per month to review, with those not retained going to a local charity shop.
Then add to that books I actually buy, either new or SH and my wife says I've a problem, lol.
I reply that there current insurance value, will provide for her in old age lol

And then, a month later, Charlie Company arrives in the mail!

No earthly idea where it's been, but it's a first edition in great condition--for free!

 

Thought I was done but the sales got me.

Weird little mix but the book on the merchant marine in WW2 looks very interesting. Lots of great pictures and potted histories.
