Ah, Id forgotten that military land rovers one. Was crazy cheap on N&MP this week. Bugger. Again. The Yugoslavian armour one is not the best, assuming it's the one I got in the Tankograd series. It's OK, just not 'oooh'. Seems Herr Vollert is the man to watch in that line. Hmmm. Sodding Land Rovers. Paying postage is so non-u these days, though. But it is really cheap...
An infinite number of NMP books will reduce the pro rata postage to approximately free so I can't really see your argument.
Just a passing note that WoB appears to have three copies of Spielberger's Tiger book for £13, delivered. If I didn't already have it, I'd be on that like a dog on chips. Most common price is £30-50. Not the best in the series (Stug), but still rather good. The Tiger and Kingtiger and Their Variants (German Fighting Vehicles) By Walter J. Spielberger | World of Books
Chris remember when you pick it up ensure your back is straight and knees bent then rise in one straight movement
Thanks CL1! I think I should start an exercise regime. P.S. for those unfamiliar, "Dileas" is the regimental history of the 48th Highlanders of Canada, from Toronto.
Go away! So far I've managed to resist Canadian histories. Except RCAC, RCE, the army official history trilogy...
I have noticed a new strand to the problem: I find a bargain from Abebooks and, listening to the voice on my left soldier, order it. The bookseller receives order and realises that he/she has significantly underestimated overseas postage cost. I receive an email request for an increased postage charge--typically an additional five or six quid. I approve the request on the grounds that: a) It's 'only' five or six quid. b) It would be rude to cancel. c) I've 'already bought it' and now it's mine and a) again. Result: the book is no longer a bargain and my wife is eyeing the credit card bill. Repeat.
I would argue that: 1) The extra fiver is still a bit cheaper than going to collect it yourself; 2) When you're buying the good stuff, even a 'bargain' should be expensive enough to make the fiver insignificant. I say I would argue, but tend not to these days as the better half is much better at it.
Ah ha You see There is not a problem You all think this through before purchase even if done in a subliminal fashion. So in your eyes it is a true purchase of worth therefore not a problem.
Hi I get sent several books per month to review, with those not retained going to a local charity shop. Then add to that books I actually buy, either new or SH and my wife says I've a problem, lol. I reply that there current insurance value, will provide for her in old age lol Best Andy H
And then, a month later, Charlie Company arrives in the mail! No earthly idea where it's been, but it's a first edition in great condition--for free!
Be rude not to get 'A View From The Turret' for just under £8. Aware of the sneaky P&S re-title, but nice to find a 'proper' one at non-crazy price. The watchlist of links pays off. And finally got around to, I think, the last HMSO series title I fancy. Prices fluctuating wildly again, so grabbed it, just in case. (Rather good for trailers, artics, transporters etc. Never had much on them in an easily accessed format.)
Keep checking those Tesco charity book heaps. Starting to think someone local has died, leaving an interesting little pile of the sort of books grandad used to have.
Thought I was done but the sales got me. Here's my grab bag of recent purchases: Weird little mix but the book on the merchant marine in WW2 looks very interesting. Lots of great pictures and potted histories.
