Odd how connected one can get to someone through the ether.

    Godspeed Gerry.

I turned up a number of Gerry's old posts last year and found some very useful material.
Sad to see he has gone.
    May he rest in peace.

I am out in Italy guiding the NIH Association at Cassino and on the Hitler Line next week.

No doubt we will toast Gerry Chester at some point during the event. Everybody seemed to know him.

Having passed a link to this thread to Gerry's son, I received this quick response that I hope he doesn't my quoting from.

"Thanks so much for this. It is really wonderful to read the warm tributes to dad on the page. He was almost 97, and although he really wanted to reach 100 it was a good end. No matter though how old he was, or how expected, death still hits hard. Really grateful to you all for your kindness.
    With best wishes,
    Philip"

Good to see you have joined the forum and that you liked the pic.

I have also passed the sad news to ARRSE, a site on which your dear Dad was much admired because of his military expertise

I don't know how I missed this back in March.

Godspeed, Mr. Chester. You were well thought of over here in the States.
