Service records for a friend

    A friend of mine has sent me her father's service records , there are some things on there she doesn't understand , and I can't help her , she knows about the agriculture leave as her grandfather owned a farm , any help would be appreciated and I will pass the info on

    We can't make the 4th line down on what it's says and where he was redesignated to 608 regiment,looks like letters VA or something !!

    4th line from bottom ?
    After VA looks like PAL/Bdr.
    Paid Acting Lance-Bombardier.

    I think the clerk has 'doubled up':

    'Appointed', and then the 'VA' is actually 'UA' for Unpaid Acting and then he's written UPAL/Bdr for Unpaid Acting Lance Bombardier.

    So you have: Appointed (Unpaid): Unpaid Acting Lance-Bombardier.

    Sounds like an odd error, but I've seen odder.

    Could be wrong.
