Thanks very much. I was never sure if he had been captured in Greece or Crete. That document seems to solve that conundrum - strangely, however, I couldn't find him in the missing file for RAOC on Crete. Maybe I missed him, or maybe he was attached to another unit and was recorded in their Missing file. Great excuse to go back to Kew!

    Thanks again.

All, just to keep you guys in the loop. I today have been into Newcastle, the Discovery museum there holds a large archive of material. I am living with the archive department and will keep you posted of any photographs I can get copies of. I'll look to do a photo bucket of them all and share on here. Its also the 200th anniversary year of the Northumberland Hussars and a large display will be shown in the museum later in the year. I'll keep you informed of dates etc for those who may be interested,

Is there any mention of 1111985 Bombardier Leslie Tinkler anywhere? He joined the Northumberland Hussars in 1940, and looks to have served with them throughout the War, getting wounded in June 1944; severely enough that he was out of action until September.

    Thanks,

    David

    Hi David,

His name is mentioned in the casualties and wounded on 14/6/1944. Rank when wounded Lance Bombardier.

Also mentioned on page 241, which I'll post in the morning. From the book by Joan Bright.

Cheers Steve, but Tinkler was only with the Hussars until October 1945 (he'd joined them in 1940, serving throughout). He then headed off to Palestine with the 2nd Field Regiment from December '45 to Sept '46. He then re-upped into the RA in 1948, serving in the Korean War.
