I've just looked at the war diary page of 6 Lincolns and it states the one casualty was a sniper from A Company. 3 Germans appear to have been killed as well. These details were not mentioned in the book. Only one man from the Lincolns was killed that day, so it must have been him.

    My pleasure.

You can pick a copy of the book about 6 Lincolns from the Naval & Military Press for £12-50. Zacharius's name is on page 49.

On 14 Nov 43, 6 LINCOLNS were operating from a small village called Fasani.

    upload_2019-2-28_10-10-41.png

Their job was to probe the Garigliano riverbank in order to establish German positions and find possible crossing points for future operations. It was during one of these patrols, in this case by the Carrier Platoon, that Pte Georgiou was killed.

One of the participants in that Carrier Platoon patrol was awarded a Military Medal in that action. Sjt CB Smollett:

I'm glad these type of records are still around onouy, otherwise the forum would be a much quieter place. Great to see your research thread develop so quickly. :)

Spot on TD . She married John Richard Maher (b 18/04/1915 died 1995) . The 1939 Register was used when setting up the NHS and subsequent changes to surnames often reveal their `new` marriage name. Florence Georgiou was changed to Florence Maher on 13/09/1957.

only reason we found out about all of this is we belived florence gave all the stuff that zacharias owned to his brother( my granfather uncle) and he kept it and never told anyone about it. it was only recently when he passed away we found all of this
