Good evening, I am looking for a book wich was written by a local historian who lives near Port Stanley, Ontario. I am looking for this book because I have a Battle Dress from a vet who is featured in the book. Does anyone now the title and/or has a copy for me? It might be a long shot but thank you very much in advance, Jan
If you can add which unit he was in, or describe the badges on the blouse, that might help to narrow it down. Just to make sure we're not missing the obvious - do you know the name of the author?
Hello, Unfortunately I do not know the author of the book. The dauhgter of the veteran told me about the book, but unfortunately we lost contact. This is all the information I managed to find. I would love to get a photo of him. John W. MCINTYRE A19293 7th field company the Royal Canadian Engineers He enlisted in 1939 and served with the 2nd and later possibly also with the 3th Canadian Divison. He landed at the beaches of Dieppe in 1942, he was one of the lucky ones that made it back to England. He also served here in the Netherlands. He passed away in 1995. Thanks, Jan
A short history of the 2nd Canadian Div can be found at www.canadiansoldiers.com What sort of book was this? If it was about any of the actions in which 2nd Canadian Division was engaged then a subject search on that topic might be a way to start in order to track it down.
Hello, From my understanding, it was just a local book that covered the WW2 veterans from the Port Stanley region. Jan
It could potentially be: Bless 'em all : Port Stanley's veterans of World War Two Prothero, Frank 2005, 210 pages I found this by googling "story of port stanley in ww2" and it was on the first page. If this isn't it... look at more search results
Could this be it? Bless 'em all : Port Stanley's veterans of World War Two Prothero, Frank, author. 2005,, 210 pages : The Toronto Public Library has copies.
You guts are really great! Yes that must be it. Still can not find it on google. Unfortunately I live in the Netherlands so I either have to find a place to buy the book or possibly someone had the book and can provide me with some scans? Thanks very much, Jan
One copy here I think: Bless 'Em All. Port Stanley's Veterans Of World War Two by Frank Prothero: Nan-Sea Publications, Port Stanley, Ontario Pictorial Boards, 1st Edition. - A Life Full of Books
I think we tag teamed that search Steve. I'm 228 km from Port Stanley so not exactly a local but your distance is likely a tad longer.
Good work, I had already found Frank Prothero by searching for historians there. I didn't learn that he had a WWII title though.
I recommend abebooks.com. That is an international network of independent booksellers. You can find all sorts of hard to find titles on the site. I used abebooks when I was writing my own work on 50th Division and they were excellent, got me everything I needed.
I would have thought that 228Km makes you virtually a neighbour by Canadian standards or "2 doors down at the least" TD
Hi Canuck, AS TD says, by Canadian and US standards, 228km is a Sunday picnic drive. Well done again for tracing the book and author. Steve
I wouldn't put any stock in that, it looks to me like we searched for it simultaneously - which is pretty funny really Go Team Canada!
