My late Dad was in the above Regiment and recently some books have come to light. I have searched the site to see if they have already been uploaded but can only see one and a reference to others. I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction if they were of interest. Anyway here is a list of the following books/maps; 1. 5th(Huntingdonshire) Battalion - The Northamptonshire Regt. - Addresses of Past and Present Members January 1946. 2. The 5th Battalion the Northamptonshire Regiment in Italy - Compiled by Capt. Ian A McKee (95 pages) with a separate Maps of the History enclosed at the back. 3. 78th Division Victory Parade - Spittal - Austria 6thJuly 1945.
Steve. I have the story of 5 NORTHANTS during their time at Cassino during the Fourth Battle if that helps. They were one of the three infantry battalions in 11 Infantry Brigade which was part of 78 Infantry Division. Regards Frank
Steve, You may want to get in touch with one of the site members - 'Drew5233'. He might have the Bn's War Diary which would assist you in understanding what your father was experiencing. Regards Bruneval
Hi, Battle Axe Division Victory Parade “booklet” has been mentioned previously in this topic - 78th Division Victory Parade, Spittal, 6th July 1945. Steve
Yes Kyle you are spot on, sorry for the confusion. I have posted some samples. I thought they might help someone. Best regards - Steve
Steve. I would love to see the pages and maps from Capt Mckee’s book on their period at Cassino. Regards Frank
Looks has if I'll be doing some shopping about for this rare book.. It crossed my mind a while back if 5 Northamptons had done one. If i can get a copy, then that will complete all three brigades of 78 Division. Happy Days. Thanks Steve. Edit: Regimental or Battalion.. Regards Stu.
I am not sure of the easiest way to post copies on this site as the address book has 50 pages, the Battalion one has 95 pages(larger than A4 paper and a bit to big for my scanner) and the maps are about 11(again larger than A4). The best way I can think of is taking individual photos of each page and uploading them to yourselves unless you could advise me a different way. Also interesting is that Capt. Ian McKee persuaded the German Cavalry Corps Mobile Printing Press to print the account. I live in Kettering if you are close by or arrange a meeting if you want see them. Best regards - Steve
You could create an album or two in the forum Gallery . That would be better than adding them to this thread. Thank you for offering to share them with us.
Thanks for that Tullybone, I had stumbled across that when I was searching earlier on. I was wondering if a copy of that booklet was given to everyone in the 78th Division after the parade or how it was issued post parade. Best regards - Steve
Just to let you know that with the help of the Forum members I have uploaded these books, maps etc with regard to the 5th (Huntingdon) Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment in the Gallery section. I hope they are readable and helpful to someone. Best Regards - Steve
