Well if you father went to North Africa in Operation Torch then they could be 1st Army, if he never went there but was in NW Europe then it a chance its 2nd Army.

If your father is in the picture then check out the composition of the Army/Corps/Brigades etc to see if your fathers Regiment was a part of them - that what I guess you moght be trying to do or it is another route to establishing where he was

Tucked away in my father's army service and pay book was this slip of paper , all the years I've had it I never knew this was there , hidden in like a little pocket within the pages , any information on what it was used for ? Reading it myself it's probably self explanatory but I'm honestly not clued up enough to take a guess

Dated 4/5/45 from 'C' Q [which I would assume is Quartermaster of 'C' Company/Troop] and seems to be for 1 x Emergency Ration - thats 4 days prior to the end of the war in Europe - do you have any idea where he was at that time??

Ah - OK well the records associated with the war diaries for whichever unit he was with will give you an approximate area he was in so it might reveal something then as to why they seem to be being issued with Emergency Rations at that time

Thank TD , I can't wait to receive his service records , and I'm pretty certain there will be loads of questions from me to you experts ..what rations would they be on that paper or is it that it could range of certain things

Well it is an Emergeny Pack - its not there to sustain one for days just enough in case you are 'busy' and/or normal service of meals cant get to you at the agreed time

My guess is it is D/E meaning Duration of Emergency.

Could it be “HE” – Hughie Edwards, has he initialled the form? “E” looks very much like that in his signature, “H” less so.
