    Good morning,

My grand father and his two brothers all served during the Second World War. I have my grand father's Service Records and know he served with 545 Coastal Regt, 1st & 2nd Maritime Regts and 613 Search Light Regiment.

However, I do not have the Service Number for his brother Stanley Terence Brudenell. I know he survived Dunkirk and was later severely wounded in Normandy July 1944 (reported in the local paper). The third brother Raymond Denis Brudenell was also wounded in 1942 - I have his Service Number.

Grateful for any pointers in trying to identify his service number.

    Regards

    JB

Apply for his service records you just require his date of birth and death certificate you do not require his service number
Link below for the only route to get his records

Get a copy of military service records

Hopefully a forum member might have his attestation details that will show his service number

    CL1,

I was under the impression you needed a Service Number to apply for the Service Record? Must have misread the the footnote!
Thanks - I'll send off for his Records!!

    Regards

Request records of deceased service personnel

Subject to the payment of an administration fee and provision of a copy of a death certificate (except where death was in service), certain information can be provided from the records of service of service personnel on request under the publication scheme.

No requirement for a service number - there is a difference in information they will send you depending if you are next of kin or not - although these days there are very few next of kin left alive I'm afraid

    TD,

Correct. That's Stanley my great uncle; I have his death certificate which I will send off with 30 sheets!

I have a feeling he served with the Northamptonshire Regiment, but not too sure. His Service Record will reveal all.

    Regards

    JB.

    Kyle,

Many thanks for identifying Stanley T Brudenell's Service Number. The Brudenell surname is usually mispelt on many sources, so makes it quite interesting when tracing my relatives.

Raymond Denis is Stanley's brother; interestingly their Service Numbers are one digit apart! Also, I will look into the other record of A Brudenelll. This one is not related as he was an Arthur Brudenell (Royal Artillery).

The newspaper article is a great find as this is refers to my g.g grand parents.

Once again - thank you for the articles.

    Happy New Year

Is there a War Diary for the 1st Bn Royal Norfolk Regiment covering the period Jun - Jul 44? In particular 8 Jul 44 when my great uncle was wounded.

    Regards
