The OFLAG VIb is famous for this adventures escape.

But what happened to the camp?

Apparently, on 27 September 1944 it was bombed by the RAF, sadly killing 91polish officers.
What went wrong, does anyone know?

Nothing left of the camp today, only the near by cemetery.

I can post some pics, if there is interest. A friend of mine visited the place just recently with my reuest to take walk around and make pics.

    Stefan,

I wouldn’t mind seeing some pics. My great granddad was in the camp until all the British POWs were moved out following Olympia.

The camp was four kms, as the crow flies, from the railway junction at Nörde. This in an age before the "smart bomb"

The same thing happened a couple of months later at Stalag XIIA where some SOE captures were accidentally killed.

No worries Stefan. I’ll add this thread to my watch list so I know when the photos go up. Thanks again for offering to share.

    Hi again,

there are 3 lots of pics:

A map of total camp as well as detailled sections of it.
    B - Cemetery general and
C - Graves of the Polish officers
Does it make sense to add all, or split up in different threads?
    Stefan.

Are you going to start a new thread? I would say just post them all in one thread - anyone looking is likely to want to see all of them anyway. You could always rename this one.
