    Hello Shanghai Jim.

I am just wondering if you managed to find anymore about this.

The soldier in question was my maternal grandfather, of Hadleigh Suffolk.

Welcome to the Forum. A great topic but note that Shanghai Jim has not visited the Forum since 2016 (click on his name to see his details etc). I suggest you start a Conversation with him as that may prompt an email to him.

    Good luck

Hi everyone. My name is Lesley Hardy and Tom Wright was my uncle. I have never heard the family talk about an elephant or Tommy being a POW, but my family is so colourful that it wouldn’t surprise me. Aspects of his personality also shocked some of the family, however he was dearly loved by all his nieces and nephews. I have recently acquired a heap of letters that Uncle Tommy wrote to my dad during the war. I will work through them and see if I can shed any light on the above questions. If anyone is interested in any of his poems written during this time please let me know.

    Hi Lesley

    Welcome

If you use the search facility and check out 'poems' then there are a number of threads on the subject. It might be worth it, if you want to start a thread specifically for his poems - sort of another place to store them.

If it helps I knew Tom Wright who lived in Norwich. His two sons Nicky and Topher if you can track them down may help.
