Im currently in the process of obtaining some family military records and thanks to this website, it is going really well. I have tried to do everything without having to subscribe to any of the numerous websites out there. I have now found some info on my uncle who was RAMC during WW2, namely 7521227 Eddie James. I also have 2 x medals which I believe belong to him which I would like to get mounted professionally.

It looks like he is on the British Army casualty list 1939-1945 but to view this information I will need to upgrade my membership and pay. Is there any way of viewing this info without paying or alternately, is there anyone out there with an active account for these sites that can get this information for me. Ive just paid out £41 to get my grandads army records and am trying to keep costs down. Cheeky I know but worth asking I reckon. Thank you so much everyone.

    Hi Jim,
It costs £30 to obtain a service man's record.
If you don't mind me asking why did,and to whom, did you pay £41 ?

    Graham.

It was £11 for his death certificate that i required then £30 to the MOD records unit at Glasgow.

Well done Jim, Some guys do get ripped off attempting to obtain records from other sites, just wanted to make sure it wasn't you.

I'm trying to get hold of my uncle's service records but I am drawing a blank. The reason being, I cannot get hold of his death certificate as he died in one part of the UK, was cremated, and his ashes are now at our family plot in Cardigan, West Wales. My mum thinks he died in Bagshot, Surrey but I've contacted them and they can't find any details about him. He served during WW2 and there is a form somewhere stating that he was injured at some point. I believe it was sent to me via a member on here and is attached to one of my posts. I believe I may have his medals in my possession but would really like to get hold of his service records too. If anyone can advise me where to go from here, please do.

Was his father Owen, mother Mary and wife Barbara? There is a family tree that suggests his death was registered in Bristol, is that likely? Remember that the place where a death was registered is not necessarily where the death occurred.

The dob differs, how certain are you?

It's the dob I have seen on my grandad(his father)s service records. I'm sure that it says 1924 on the headstone too(photo on one of my earlier posts). But to be honest, they got one of the years incorrect by about 1 year on my grandad headstone!!!

    Your first post says
"but would really like to get hold of his service records too"

    your post no 9 says
" It's the dob I have seen on my grandad(his father)s service records"

Do you have his service records or not ? - I'm confused
