    Hi Glenn

I am assuming your are 1 of the 5 people who have created trees on Ancestry with Clement included in them, none of which happens to have a photograph of him unfortunately.

Can I ask if anyone has obtained his official service records? - I mention this as when my fathers were received there was in fact a small square photo of him

TD - sometimes known as Tatiana Despardo (depends what I'm doing)

The other point in relation to this tragedy is that in wartime unless military personnel were well briefed on the navigation of their surrounding areas, there was likely to be incidents such as this away from the immediate area of their camp or station location.

Remember that during the war all signposts were removed and this incident occurred during the dark with vehicles that would be equipped with restricted headlamp lighting.Usually as regards military transport movement, these were conducted by convoy as I remember the AI at Fairburn.....continual lines of military convoys.

There was a similar incident described at Knottingley crossroads, which is in fact a tee junction.A RAF Snaith bus driver took the bend too fast in an overloaded bus returning from a night out in Pontefract and hit the far wall. The result was about 7 dead who died apparently from suffocation. The death toll could have been much higher had the bus smashed through the wall into a deep quarry below but this was averted by the fact that the bus hit the wall broadside on.....the incident has been discussed on the forum some time ago.

Capt Bill wrote a full report on this dreadful accident, explaining it wasn't at a T Junction or crossroads, but on the bend near Knottingley Town Hall (I know the area well and it's a nasty bend).

That reminds me the next time I am up there,I should take a photograph of the wall repair which after all these years, the last time I Iooked still showed a distinct repair.
