Hi. New to the group. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Trying to work out what the following first and last line would mean on a medal. 1st line F5022 2nd line A.G.Temple. 3rd line A.M.I.B.N.A.S. The B in the middle could be an R and the impression is not clear. I appreciate this would most likely of been done by the recipient but any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards John
A quick google would suggest Air Mechanic 1st Class, Royal Naval Air Service. Not to be taken as gospel, but again, wikipedia would suggest that that would be WW1 organisation? Merged with RFC to form the RAF in 1918. First line is id number I think. An odd one for a 39-45 star though??
Royal Naval Air Service RNAS Name: Temple, Alfred George Official Number: F5022 Place of Birth: Deptford, London Date of Birth: 08 June 1884 He would have been 55 years old at outbreak of the Second World War. His First World War service records are available to download from the National Archives.
Re 1939-1945 Star engraving First time I've heard of engraving on a standard 1939-1945 medal. I've got a standard rack of 5 ww2 medals and certainly none were engraved Ron ps Or is it just a case of a posting being wrongly placed in a forum and this is a WW! medal enquiry ?
I think the key part of the OP’s query is in his last sentence where he suggests the “engraving” was most likely done by the recipient. If that is his only WW2 medal it is likely self awarded as if he did serve he should also have the War Medal (at least). Steve

Good morning all. Thank you so much for all your efforts. Much appreciated. I had been looking at two sets of medals last night which had been awarded to a friends father and grandfather. Blame it on the wine and the lateness of the hour but I dId get mixed up. It is the WW1 Star. I will pass on the information to him shortly. Regards John
