Hi Here is an entry in October 1944 war diary for 2nd Independent Parachute Squadron, Royal Engineers. It seems to say that a Sapper Brough of B Troop was seriously wounded when clearing mines in Athens. Trouble is I cant find any other record of it. It's not anywhere in the Casualty Lists 1939-1945. It's nowhere on the CWGC, assuming he may have died from his wounds. Nothing. Maybe it's not Brough! Anyone got any ideas? Gus
Maybe contact Royal Engineers Museum Prince Arthur Road, Gillingham, Kent, ME7 1UR Tel: +44 (0)1634 822839 OR Make an Enquiry | ParaData TD
According to FMP, 1894965 Spr D Carey and 1880205 Spr T Gazzard were both recorded as wounded on 20/10/44.
I cant seem to find him as a death, so could have survived the war etc - without more details........ TD
I have some more details. 1917568, Sapper D C Brough I got his initials from the nominal roll inside the history of 2 Para Sqn RE on Paradata. There is only one person with that name and initials found in the RE database on FMP. According to the history of 2 Para Sqn RE on Paradata, had to get both legs amputated when he was seriously wounded clearing mines around Athens. Sapper Brough was also wounded in NA in 1943 (later changed to not a battle casualty) but still nothing found in cas lists for this later incident. Gus
