Just noticed they are switching back and forth between kilometers and miles on the TV header. It's around 130 KM
That cemtery is only just north of Arras, I can't see that being the one you saw on TV. I only watched the start before we had to go out so am not sure where bit you were viewing. This stage map may help . https://static.independent.co.uk/s3fs-public/thumbnails/image/2018/07/04/16/stage-9.jpg
They must have had their camera drone or helicopter ranging pretty far off then. I don't remember if I saw the cyclists in the shot but I'm sure it was Notre Dame de Lorette that the camera flew over. Pretty spectacular. Hard to imagine this countryside during WWI.
Just had a thought whilst watching the highlights, the distance counts down to the end not up from the start . I saw Vimy Memorial on the coverage this morning & it's not that far from Notre Dame de Lorette.
That was one brutal but brilliant race well enjoyed it (but Richie Porte won't have) poor lad so unlucky.
I'm liking this Bardet guy. Seems to be a bulldog. Not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog. Even if he is 6'1 he's only 145 lbs. Always pull for Sagan too.
Just watching the Stage 10 highlights. Got called away from TV & when I got back there were a lot of Resistance re-enactors by the roadside with a French song playing. I think it was to do with this. Plateau des Glieres Memorial Heritage - Stage 10 - Annecy > Le Grand-Bornand - Tour de France 2018
Indeed it was to do with that TD In fact the commentators said that the peleton slowed down and all turned their heads in respect
Does that mean 70.5 KM from the finish? I'm watching my DVR now and they went to some commercials at around 71 and came back at 69 so I didn't see it.
Thanks, guys. I restarted and was able to see them go past it now. As I was watching I thought to myself 'That guy looks like he is holding a bazooka' and then a Traction Avant and realized it was the re-enactors that Owen mentioned.
Saw graffiti vandalism for the first time while watching stage 13. It was under a bridge. I understand that they carefully select scenic routes but it has been amazing how pristine everything has looked so far. I haven't seen one garbage dumpster or abandoned car yet. And no protesters with banners at all. They would be about every forth person for the whole route if this was in the USA.
There is a reasonable amount of graffiti in places - it depends on which region. Here in Brittany there is often a good amount on motorways, some being in Breton, as 99% of French do not understand it. All a bit like Cornwall wanting independance within the UK (the Breton & Cornish flags are similar). TD I must say that generally France is a 'clean' place to live
So what is going to happen at doping control today after the stage? Is pepper spray / tear gas classed as a performance enhancing drug.
Did they show this on the TV broadcast? I didn't see it. In America sports broadcasts usually don't show protesters so that others won't imitate them.
