    No criticism intended, old chap.

I permanently deleted a thread by mistake on another forum a couple of months back--fortunately nobody has spotted it's missing yet!

I clocked that in the diary of 67th for the 10th December. Who knows if he died has a result of being interrogated, or a bang on the head when captured? Until someone pops along with the records of the three Parachute Grenadier Regiments that I've mentioned, i think we will be peeing it in the wind. Ah, at last the threads have been merged.. Thank-you Owen. Naughty boy Charley.;) I was seeing two.

    Regards,
    Stu.

    Nothing is easy.
I never thought I would locate where Noel died but now have using 67 War Diary 2nd Sept 1944 grid ref against maps of Florence. Was juction of Route 65 and lane to San Pietro at La Pietro. They were initially buried in Arrow Route Cemetery which CWGC cant or wont identify. I think it is just up the Route 65 in what is now Red Cross property. It was not available for sale for posterity which is a requirement of CWGC.
The lane was marked swept and no warning signs where they turned but at the other end it was closed due to mines.
Fog of war or a balls up. AMERICANS claimed Route 65 for themselves perhaps they swept it and removed the signs from the Junction or 1 div engineers did.

Bit of background. I have minimal minimal artillery experience having learned basic signals and surveying.
I am familiar with a 25 pdr Regiment and how it operates.
I understand military jargon and am an experienced map reader. I understand military tactics.
Have learned not to give in although escape and evasion is always an option.
I worked in Florence in the 70s and know it fairly well.
Leave it at that for now.
The Noel Beadle letters rekindled this knowldege.

My eyes are getting rather goosed at the moment. I'm sure that you mentioned a book that is called UBIQUE by A.M. Cheetham m.c. of 2 Field Regiment R.A. Is there a original copy of this regiment. I think i may have come across it a while back? It may well have had dark blue cover. It was not cheap.

If you get Ubique you will see where Dickie Whitfield got his ideas from. If you contact
WORCESTER ARCHIVES at The Hive Worcester you can get a copy of A History of 67 Field Regt by PM
Peter Mennell was adjutant who wrote most of the War Diaries he ended the war as 2/ic and Bill Kerr was the OC.
It comes as part 1 and 2 it cost me £35 to get it digitised so they should have it for less if they ,kept the files. You can go there and photo it for £8.
Its over 100 pages A4. Then you will have what Dickie Whitfield copied and added his memories to. Much of A History was written by Bill Beadle my letter writer.

    Not seen this one before.
What you refer to as a rank is a Divisional Shoulder Flash not an officers epaulette.
Probably 1st Infantry Division need to look it up.

Still think the men with the lorries are saying goodbye to the officer in the shorts & socks or else he is a visiting celebrity.
His clothes look tailored, officers bought their own kit from an allowance.

Now for Scots grandad. This seems a good place to post the pics as some members are impressively knowledgeable.
Problem with pics is that no one knows who is in them. A few addresses are given in some 67 FR stories but they were for officers who won medals. Its the old officers and other ranks thing.
The best chance to identify people is to make contact with other relatives this site could help.
When Dickie Whitfield died his obit asked mourners to donate to 67 FR Old Comrades or Royal British Legion.
Cant find anything on Old Comrades but it might be worth me contacting Worcester branch of RBL.
Both Dickie and Tom Averill (a local personality see Ground Control and Major Tom in Worcester news) died in 2008.
I dont think any others lived longer.
We need to make contact with people who have pics that they know the odd character in. We could then build up a list of members of the Regt to help relatives learn more. To date through various forums I have been approached by half a dozen people but it was when I had other priorites and failed to look at the sites. They have never come back. Very frustrating.

One thing that I would like to ask. Could we be a little bit more discreet and appear slightly professional in our approach and not risk frightening people off by appearing to be magpies collecting little treasures or running a swap shop.
This needs to be an honest reputable service to others not a cover for flogging memorabilia.
Is this a reasonable request or does it clash with this sites open and free ethics. In which case I am in the wrong place.
Having said that if you want a copy of my book I can do one for cost of materials. Make of that what you will.

    Coincidence or old friends network.
Noel Beadle wrote to his mother from Waterloo Station that he was on his way to Bulford OCTU where his unit 373 Bty was seemingly about to move to convert to a Field Regt.
He was soon transferred to Catterick from where he was posted to 67th Field Regiment.
His mother was well connected and from Hendon.
She caused a stir in 67 officers mess in Tunisia with her cryptic forecasts of where they might go next.
Noel was born in Hendon Christmas Day 1914.
His Battery Commander David Shepherd was born in Hendon in the spring 1915.
Could it be their mothers were in touch with each other.
